Fill Types and Uses

Playground Sand
Fine, washed sand with a soft texture and consistent grain size. Commonly used in playgrounds, sandboxes, volleyball courts, and under pavers. It drains well and is safe for children, but not ideal for planting or construction fill.

Concrete Sand
Coarse, sharp-edged sand with larger, gritty particles. Ideal for mixing with cement for concrete, as well as under pavers or flagstone. It provides excellent drainage and compaction, making it a go-to choice for hardscape and construction base layers.

Fill Sand
Unwashed, coarse sand with small pebbles and varying grain sizes. It’s inexpensive and compactable, making it ideal for backfilling trenches, leveling low spots, and general site grading. Not recommended where drainage or cleanliness is critical.

Class 5 Gravel
A mix of sand, clay, and crushed rock up to 1” in size. Packs tightly for a solid base, making it ideal for driveways, roads, and under concrete. Offers strength, drainage, and durability where heavy traffic is expected.

Garden Blend
Rich, dark soil typically mixed with compost, peat, and sand. Light and fluffy with excellent drainage and nutrients. Ideal for vegetable gardens, raised beds, and flower planting. Promotes healthy root growth and water retention.

Soil Cover
Dark, fine-to-medium texture soil, often used as a top dressing. Not typically nutrient-rich, but provides a uniform appearance for lawns, landscapes, and seeded areas. Helps with erosion control and seed protection.

Class 2 Granite
Crushed granite rock with fines, offering strong compaction and durability. Used for road base, driveways, trails, and under pavement. Holds up well to heavy loads and resists erosion, making it ideal for structural support.

Granite
Clean, angular crushed granite typically 1” or larger. Decorative and durable, it’s used for landscaping, erosion control, and drainage. Also popular in garden beds, around trees, or as a driveway surface where compaction isn’t needed.

¾” Slate Trap Rock
Angular, blue-gray crushed rock known for durability and sharp edges. Commonly used for decorative driveways, drainage, erosion control, and as a base under asphalt or concrete. Long-lasting with a bold, clean look.

2.5” Slate Trap Rock
Large, jagged blue-gray rock ideal for erosion control, construction entrances, and heavy drainage areas. Its size and weight prevent washout and shifting, making it excellent for stabilizing slopes and culverts.

Class 2 Buff Limestone
Crushed tan limestone with fines, offering good compaction and a lighter, natural color. Used for driveways, paths, and under pavers where a stable yet visually softer base is desired. Packs well and drains moderately.

Buff Limestone
Light tan to beige angular stone, typically ¾” or larger. Used for decorative landscaping, pathways, and drainage. Offers a clean, warm-toned look with good durability. Does not compact, so it’s best for visual appeal and erosion control.

Bryan Red Rock
A reddish, angular decorative rock with warm earth tones. Commonly used in landscaping, garden borders, and dry creek beds. Offers a bold, natural look and good contrast with greenery. Does not compact, purely aesthetic.

¾” Red Limestone
Crushed limestone with a reddish hue, offering both function and aesthetics. Great for landscaping, walkways, and as a decorative ground cover. Provides moderate drainage and a natural, warm appearance that complements gardens and buildings.

¾” Buff Limestone
A pale tan, angular crushed stone used in landscaping, driveways, and pathways. Offers good drainage and a clean, natural look. Doesn’t compact like gravel, making it ideal for decorative or low-traffic surfaces.

3” Buff Limestone
Large, angular buff-colored limestone pieces used for erosion control, drainage ditches, and decorative dry creek beds. Too coarse to compact but effective at slowing runoff and adding visual texture in landscapes.

2.5” Slate Trap Rock
Large, jagged blue-gray rock ideal for erosion control, construction entrances, and heavy drainage areas. Its size and weight prevent washout and shifting, making it excellent for stabilizing slopes and culverts.

Drain-tile River Rock
Smooth, multi-colored natural stones, typically ½”–1” in size. Excellent for drainage around foundations, French drains, and dry creek beds. Also used decoratively in landscapes due to their varied tones and rounded edges.

Field Stone
Naturally rounded and weathered stones in varied sizes and colors. Used for decorative borders, water features, garden accents, and retaining walls. Their smooth texture and earthy tones provide a rustic, natural aesthetic.

2.5” Slate Trap Rock
Large, jagged blue-gray rock ideal for erosion control, construction entrances, and heavy drainage areas. Its size and weight prevent washout and shifting, making it excellent for stabilizing slopes and culverts.

4–6” Field Stone
Mid-size, naturally rounded stones in gray, tan, and reddish tones. Perfect for edging, dry stream beds, fire pit surrounds, and accent grouping in landscape beds. Adds rustic texture without overpowering small spaces.

1.5” River Rock
Smooth, naturally rounded stones in mixed earth tones—browns, reds, grays, and blacks. Great for decorative beds, around ponds, edging, or as mulch alternatives. Excellent drainage and striking color variety make it a landscape favorite.

Dresser Trap Rock
Dark, angular igneous rock known for its strength and deep black tone. Commonly used in driveways, landscaping, and high-traffic areas. Offers a bold, elegant appearance with long-lasting durability and excellent compaction.

2.5” Gray Granite
Large, angular gray granite chunks ideal for erosion control, riprap, drainage solutions, and bold landscape features. Highly durable, with speckled texture and strong structural support in high-flow or slope-prone areas.

Goldenrod Mulch
Shredded wood mulch dyed a rich orange-brown hue. Used for decorative ground cover, weed suppression, and moisture retention around plants. Adds bold contrast to landscapes and breaks down slowly for long-lasting coverage.
